Bluehost Web Hosting

From $3.45/mo.

Ease of Use

  • Easy to use
  • Reliable
  • Good for WordPress

  • Not the cheapest around

Choosing a hosting provider is never easy. There are hundreds of companies offering website hosting and what not. The difficult bit is that not all of them are all that good and a lot of them are simply terrible. And it doesn’t help that the Web is full of paid reviews that praise companies that are no good at hosting but have big advertising budgets. So, we’ve decided to put things right and do a few hosting reviews. We thought we’d write a Bluehost review because this website is hosted with Bluehost.

Bluehost Hosting Overview

Bluehost is one of the oldest hosting providers – they’ve been in business since 1996. That’s a long time and the fact that they are still around tell you a lot about the company. To be honest, this was one of the factors that helped us decide which company to host with. Other hosting providers come and go, while Bluehost is sure to stick around. They also are good at what they do – there are thousands of websites hosted with Bluehost. It’s also recommended by for hosting WordPress blogs, which is something.

Bluehost Features

Unlike many other Web hosting providers, Bluehost doesn’t play the “oh, we have the cheapest package around” game. They offer only one package – unlimited hosting with unlimited disk space for unlimited domains and unlimited email accounts. You also get a free domain for one year (you have to pay to renew it after that). This was another thing that helped us make our choice. Obviously, we wanted to find the best deal, but we didn’t want to buy a cheap hosting package only to find out we needed to host more domains, were running out of disks space or exceeding our bandwidth. Because that’s what usually happen to people who purchase hosting that costs $2/month and then have to upgrade to something that costs $12/month. To cut the long story short, the unlimited deal suited us just fine.

But anyway, let’s talk about the features Bluehost has to offer. Like a lot of other hosting companies, Bluehost offers the cPanel control panel. It’s considered the best because it’s quite easy to manage and provides lots of options. It makes it easy to manage your hosting accounts, your domains and your installations such as WordPress, SimpleScripts or any other site builders you may use. Speaking of which, Bluehost offers four site builders – WordPress, SimpleScripts, Weebly (good for absolute beginners) and goMobi mobile website builder (paid service).

You also get unlimited email for all of your domains when you sign up for hosting with Bluehost. Your email can be accessed either via Bluehost’s webmail or you can configure an email client.

Anyway, that’s what you get for the price. But there are also Bluehost partners whose services you can add to your account. These include various anti-spam services, shopping carts, domain privacy services, SSL certificates, SEO packages, online marketing and what not. If you want to host a blog, you probably won’t need these services. But if you are a small business owner, they are worth looking into because you can get them with a good discount.

Bluehost Reliability and Support

When you are looking for hosting, there are really only two things that matter – reliability and speed. If the hosting is unreliable and your site is constantly down, there isn’t much point in it all. And if your site is slow, your visitors will leave immediately after they open your site. Well, this site runs on Bluhost and we are satisfied with its speed (hope you are too). And in a bit less than a year that we’ve been around the site has never been down. And that’s why we are satisfied with Bluehost.

We’ve never had any problems with the actual running of Review Harbor, but we did have to contact Bluehost support once because we had a billing question. Bluehost offers email, phone and chat support 24/7. We’ve chosen to contact them via chat. A support person replied really quickly and answered all our questions (even the stupid ones) in a professional manner. So we know for a fact that Bluehost offers good customer support.

Bluehost Ease of Use

Bluehost accounts are pretty easy to use. There is some initial figuring out and getting used to, but you can manage without having to refer to tutorials (there are plenty) or contacting support. Beginners might have some problems, but like I said, the tutorials and the support staff are always there to help.

Bluehost Pricing

Normally, Bluehost costs a flat fee of $6.95/month. That’s more expensive than some other companies offer, but it does include all the unlimited bits. So seriously, it is a good price. And the best bit is that Bluehost constantly runs various promotions and discounts – you can get hosting for as little as $3.95/month if you are lucky. This is as far as your initial contract period goes. Unfortunately, things change when you have to renew – you simply can’t get the amazing $3.95 deal when you are renewing. If you are renewing for a year, then you will have to pay $8.99/month. That’s quite a lot but less than the same deal costs with other companies. And if you renew for 24 or 36 months, the price goes down to $7.99/m. and $6.99/m respectively. And you get additional perks like $100 Google AdWords credit, Facebook ad credit and so on. So, if you intend to keep your websites running for a long time, you can still get a pretty good deal from Bluehost. The good thing is that it’s safe because unlike other companies Bluehost offers anytime money back guarantee.

The Verdict

Bluehost is a popular WordPress hosting company and it’s very good. The prices are reasonable too, so we recommend it.
